This truly is a dessert I go back to time and time again. It only takes 5 ingredients to make, plus a good scoop of vanilla ice cream to serve. If you cook often, chances are you’ll already have butter and sugar in the house. So it’s hopefully just a matter of grabbing some pears, a sheet of puff pastry and some miso.
The miso in this recipe really gives it a delicious hit of umami, in the same way the salt balances out a caramel sauce. Ready rolled puff pastry works great for this recipe and is a great time saver.
I find the small, rounder pears are the best ones to use for this dish as their shape and size are much easier to arrange in the pan. A varierty you can look out for is seckel pears, or ones which look similar.
